In December 1986, was the day when Bolton would have a new star. This would be Amir Khan who would one day be representing the people of Bolton and his Pakistani roots. As a boxer, he is well-known of his hand speed and accuracy. As a human being, he is known for his generosity and his humbleness.
How it all began for Amir
During the 2004 Olympics in Athens, the seventeen-year-old Amir would rise to prominence and win a silver medal. This accolade was so impressive that he would become a professional boxer within a year. The promoter Frank Warren had convinced the teenager to turn professional. This was a decision that would be fundamental in helping Khan compete amongst the world’s best. When he took that decision to compete amongst the elite, he would have an impressive career that would include thirty-four wins and only 6 losses in 40 matches.
The highs and lows of his career.
Amir’s career spans from 2005-2022. In his career he has won: the Commonwealth lightweight title, the WBC Silver welterweight title and is a former two-time world champion. What stands out is how his losses gave him motivation to come back stronger. When asked of his losses, Amir said: ‘‘ I had to use other things from losses to get better’’. He then spoke about how he utilised his ‘speed and strength’ to ensure that he would learn from his defeats. This mindset proves why he can be considered amongst the world’s best.
His humbleness and generosity.
Amir Khan is an owner of a charity that aims to stop food poverty. The Amir Khan foundation supports communities that are suffering from food poverty. His charity has helped: Gambia, the UK and is currently providing a vast amount food for Palestinians. When asked of his charity work, he said:‘‘ I could buy anything I want but I would rather do charity work’’. This quote proves how Amir Khan is using his wealth to help those in need. I feel like these traits proves how he is a person that is using his status for a good cause and he isn’t materialistic. As he could be living a flashy lifestyle or womanising.
